Donald Trump and Japanese Recently Appointed Premier Share Praise and Commit to Reinforce ‘Remarkable’ Bond

In the course of a recent trip to Tokyo, former American leader Donald Trump together with Japan's new Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi exchanged warm praise and vowed to strengthen the currently strong bilateral ties.

Highlights from the Encounter

Donald Trump praised Prime Minister Takaichi as a ‘great’ figure and applauded her on assuming the role of the nation's inaugural woman premier. During their discussions at the capital's official venue, Trump voiced confidence that she would become one of the ‘outstanding leaders’ of the country.

Takaichi, identified as a close associate of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, applauded Trump's efforts to address global disputes and according to sources pledged to put forward Trump for the prestigious award.

Trade and Security Agreements

The two governments announced a series of joint projects in areas such as power, artificial intelligence, and rare earths. Japan-based firms are exploring investments of up to $400bn in the US.

Furthermore, Tokyo had earlier pledged $550bn in strategic American projects, loans, and guarantees as part of an arrangement to secure relief from the former president's import duties.

These actions are seen as potentially reducing any future requests from the US side for Tokyo to increase its defense spending. Takaichi responded to this by promising to fast-track plans to increase defense spending to two percent of gross domestic product.
